The City Selects New Police Chief

Martin Pilcher

The City of Woodburn is delighted to announce that after completing a nationwide recruitment, which involved the screening and the interviewing of multiple candidates as well as the involvement of dozens of local community members and leaders, Deputy Police Chief Marty Pilcher was selected as the new Chief of the Woodburn Police Department.

Marty, who has been serving in the capacity of Acting Police Chief since the retirement of Jim Ferraris last March, started with WPD on February 27, 2017. Prior to Woodburn, he served 28 years as a police officer in California, retiring as a Lieutenant of the Elk Grove Police Department. During his career, Deputy Chief Pilcher has served in a wide variety of assignments including Patrol, Investigations, Traffic, and SWAT.

"It is clear that Marty brings the integrity, professionalism, experience, and leadership that will continue to take our community and organization into the future," said City Administrator Scott Derickson. "I feel fortunate to have Marty on board and as part of our team."

Marty Pilcher was appointed Police Chief during the October 11 City Council meeting.
